An identity is the qualities of a person that makes who they are, an example is your favorite food. A dominant narrative is a story that people with privilege tell about someone who doesn’t and is not true, for instance all black people are criminal’s. A counter narrative is the story you tell about yourself that is true. An example is that some say black kids don’t go to school, but I’m going to Fremont. It’s important to give your counter narrative against someone’s dominant narrative. The reason it’s important is because no one person is the same as a another in the world.
To start off and reiterate, a dominant narrative is a story that people in a position of privilege tell about someone else like for instance all asians have broken english. This connects to me personally because even though some don’t out right say it they think I won’t get far in life.I chose a picture of black kids with guns for the shadowbox.I chose this image because that’s what people think of most black kids and myself. I chose another picture, which is a black homeless family. I chose this picture because most black people live in bad neighborhoods or is homeless.

The I chose it it because people with privilege assume black kids don’t go to school, but i’m in school with good grades. I also chose a picture of a black man working a (assuming)high income job. I chose this because most think black people either can’t get a job or have low paying jobs, but picture shows a man working what I believe to be a high income job.

I chose this because I really like martial arts in movies, video games, and real life. Another picture I chose was of a group called the Akatsuki from Naruto. I chose this because the group of friends I used to hang with was like the Akatsuki.
